    Rename you .minecraft folder to '.minecraft.old' (example), then run the launcher again to get a fresh .minecraft folder.

    You can also click Options > Force Update before you login as well.

    It's an issue with Java. Uninstall and reinstall it.

    Agree for the most part except for this. If you're a competent computer user, there is nothing wrong at all with Windows. It's simply those who cannot properly take care of their OS who do not like Windows.

    Have to disagree with this one. Windows has mostly everything automatic for file management and updates. I do it all manually on Arch. Then again, its because I prefer to do it this way.

    Note: I'm not saying Windows users are "incompetent". Just saying that because one doesn't prefer Windows doesn't mean they're not competent of maintaining their own system. Unless I misunderstood the post.

    I would check if your Windows is up to date. If you want to reinstall java, you can uninstall and reinstall it from the guides in the following links. Keep in mind though, we're not responsible for any damages you may cause to your computer.

    But before you dig into all of that... have you tried a simple uninstall and reinstall (removing all minecraft appdata files)?

    I'm not really sure what's going on there. Delete your minecraft.jar and your .minecraft folder from your home directory, then do this..

    1. Go to minecraft.net and download the minecraft.jar file, then cd to whatever directory it's in.
    3. Make it executable "chmod +x minecraft.jar".
    4. Then enter this in your terminal "java -jar minecraft.jar".

    If you still get the black screen, delete the jar and .minecraft folder again, go onto the website, and click 'Play in Browser'. This will download the same files as the client.

    If that goes through all good, then you can download the jar file again and play it from the client.

    When you post a server on PMC, it will attempt to ping the server to see if it's online. Are you sure that other people are able to connect to the server, who are not on your network?
