Minecraft has a very defined style that the hd skins ignore. Its not that hd skins are bad but they simply dont work in vanilla minecraft and dont feel like the are meant to be in the game. As for the process of making them. i think both styles have their challenges. pesonally i believe being able to tell a story or depict a character through the limit on detail can be more difficult than being able to draw pretty much whatever you want on the hd skins. Yes i know the hd skins do require more technical skill, but it takes a certain amount of innovation and being able to work around a problem like not being able to put something in because god damn thats not a lot of pixels(or whatever you call them).
