When I said "fantasy", I thought of something like Magicians, undead etc... What is generally present in RPGs game.
The problem with the basic medieval theme is that a lot of people will do generics knight etc... and nothing original as you or I would like...
You should really consider the posibility to add more fantasy into the medieval theme

Well, finally, Medieval/Dark Ages is a cool theme, but don't allow a lot of creativity, the representatives characters of the medieval era are: Knights, kings, princes, princess, queens, peasant, clerics, pope(?), blacksmith...
I think you should allow the fantasy, it would allows a larger creativity
