And I like Windows 8, quite a bit. It's easier to get around to find programs.
For example:
Wait, what?
Ok, first thing I think when I see your screenshot is this:
Ok, first off, why are the categories so specific if they're going to be incorrect? Like, the entire "video editing" category only has 1 video editor in it.
If it was more generalized, like "video" and "graphics", it'd be fine. I don't see why a "programming" category is even needed when it'd be perfectly fine to add that stuff into the "development software" category.
And yeah, those tiles are HUGE if you think about it in comparison to a start menu (especially since that was condensed). If you're on a tablet with not much software? Fine. But if you've got TONS of software, are you going to be flipping through pages and pages (or endlessly scrolling) to find what you want?
Straight from one of the UX designers at Microsoft:Metro is the "antithesis of a power user", he wrote, explaining that Metro was designed for "your computer illiterate little sister", not for content creators or power users.

For me it comes down to "this isn't my workflow" and I don't want what they're selling, and I also don't like the lazy flat tile interface. No, it's not minimalist, it's not "new" or "modern" (apart from the name), it's just a fad. yes, overuse of gradients looks "old", but that doesn't mean that anything with some visual depth is stuck in the past and flat squares are "revolutionary contemporary design".
Also to people who say they added the start menu button back: no, they added a start SCREEN button, which basically switches you back to the "modern" interface.CodingBuckets
thats where your wrong microsoft is not forcing people using touch screens and they added back in the start button in windows 8.1
No, that's a "return to modern" button....
