I think that Bedrock is good with joining and is a very basic version of Minecraft and is very easy to use. Java edition is more programmer-friendly and includes a wider variety of commands. It also runs mods very well and includes shaders. I personally use Java the most because I am a programmer but I do come back to Bedrock every once and a while. Try out both versions and see which one feels better for you.
