add beds that you can add patterns to! most of the mods for this i have seen are not vanilla AT ALL, but you could probably use the loom or use a banner to achieve this while still keeping it vanilla!!
Probably either a texture pack themed after a video game (other than Minecraft), or a simple texture pack like Barebones, or my texture pack. Just be creative!
