The new textures are a lot more inconsistent than the old ones, but they really grow on you after playing for a while. I prefer the old ones as those are the ones I've used since I started the game over 6 years ago. They just remind me more of "Minecraft" while the new ones just give off a different feel.
It's a lot different for every person, but while I agree the textures did need some kind of revamp, the old ones will always be my favorite.
