I think it should work like this: The first time you buy it, you get a perm link (You buy with username "AwesomeGuy" Your login link is "logins.minecraftlogins.net/AwesomeGuy", then you can change it. But you're still logging in with that link, therefore, servers are banning the link, not the username.

Simplifyed:
Real Username: AwesomeGuy
Nickname: ReedaliniIsAnAwesomeGuy
The server would ban AwesomeGuy, resulting in banning anything with that username.
