We'll be starting off ASAW with the label aromantic! 💚🤍🤎🖤

Aromantic, often shortened to "aro", is used by a person who may experience little or no romantic attraction. It exists across a spectrum, creating the aromantic spectrum we are celebrating this week.

Occasionally paired with the label asexual to create the term "aroace", a person who experiences little or no sexual and romantic attraction. Although they are often used together (and therefore easily get mixed up.), they do not mean the same thing, as one is for romantic orientation and the other for sexual orientation.

A common misconception is that aromantics cannot feel love- though they may not frequently experience romantic attraction, they can feel other types of love like familial love and platonic love, which are all as valid as romantic love. To add on, being aro has nothing to do with one's personality traits. They still feel emotions like every other person and are capable of being affectionate.

Why do we need to learn about these labels? Aren't they divisive?
Of course, everybody has their preferences. There is absolutely no need to identify with a label, which is totally fine! However, some people may find identifying with a label more empowering, and it's important to respect that. We here just hope to educate people on these identities! :]
