Mmmh. They should just focus on getting the modding API everyone's been wanting since Beta 1.5.
I think Minecraft's current game engine needs a total remake as well. [Skyrim running well on full graphics. Minecraft? Never lagless.]
They should do something about biomes as well. Perhaps a few new ones, at least a change to the old ones, seeing how the different biomes of the same type seem nearly the same. [Also, I'm so sick of finding a lush, green jungle biome next to a dry, hot desert next to a cold, snowy taiga biome.]
In my personal opinion, Minecraft needs more atmosphere, currently it's the same blue sky, same plain ambient and same greyish-blue fog. [I know there are mods for this, but none of them really make a real change to atmosphere, it just makes it slightly prettier. <--My opinion.]
Also, yeah. Ability Totems? What? "This can be useful for adventure maps", -Yes, but a dispenser with splash potions in it works fine. The thing I do love about the totems is the light beam, I can see it being used for creative purposes.
At the moment Minecraft has a lot, and I mean a huge lot of bugs that need taking care of. The last thing we really need, is tonnes of new features that will cause more bugs.
