Amazing, I've been around for quite a while and I never noticed this thread before... it's actually quite a bit of a story and has everything to do with the 'competition'.

I enjoy Minecraft, I usually enjoy communities and thus I became part of the 'official' Minecraft community, obviously no direct links nor advertisement here. For starters I never enjoyed the interface, being used to regular forums it was plain out annoying not being able to quote posts (I suppose you guys are "guilty" of this too, but it's much less annoying, which I'll get into), finding new posts was rather difficult and well... I never enjoyed the help section all that much because you had a few guys who - in my impression - were more busy copying and pasting ready made templates (snippets from previous posts) in most responses rather than actually trying to think about what bothered people and thus trying to help them. It's been a long time ago but at some point I figured that I was just wasting my time there, in the end it felt like one giant commercial media circus to me, an opinion which I believe got proven once they got bought by Twitch.

Anyway, getting fed up I decided to leave and even formally requested my account to get removed. Which sort of happened. Which left me without a community, sorta. At first I concentrated on the community linked to my favorite Minecraft forum server and then I suddenly remembered that I was registered with PMC as well, so I tried logging on again (this was a few years back, I recall already having a badge for being registered for one or two years ;)) and that was basically the beginning of the end. Or the start if you will ;)

About that quoting: one reason I'm not too bothered with it over here is because replies get clearly placed underneath a message, neatly indented and all, so it's plain out impossible to mistake posts for other things.

Try to rename your game folder. So open a file browser, then go to %appdta%, you should now see a folder called ".minecraft", try to rename that into something else and then try again.

Careful: this resets everything back to default so get ready to log on again. If this works you can then copy your data over from the old folder, the most important directories would be 'saves' and 'screenshots', optionally mods too if you use those.

Welcome to the Planet & Minecraft as a whole.

You can always rename your account, just not endlessly but with a 31 day cooldown.

What now? Well. nothing? There is no such thing as "Premium" within the Java edition. So my take would be to feel good about supporting a game you obviously seem to favor.

I'd try another browser then. Maybe something like Opera.

    Welcome to the forums ;)

#1 Yeah, you should be good. Not sure how the demo saves the world but general gameplay is fully offline. You need to be online once to verify your Minecraft account but the launcher will save a 'token' which can be used to authenticate yourself later, even if you're offline. So no worries there.

But honestly? I think you should consider creating a new world and starting from scratch again, there is so much cool stuff to explore in a new world. Best of all is that you can be assured that everything got generated & spawned as intended. I'm not familiar with all the demo limitations but I'm sure it's limited in some ways.

Heck, you could even consider using structure blocks to copy over any builds you made :)

#2 Diamonds can only be found in the area lower than y16, according to the Wiki page. And yes, they're quite rare :)

#3 Depends on the eggs, as elektropunch also said. And there are way too many in Minecraft to guess ;)

    I actually have 2 ;)

I was a huge fan of the Ghost in the Shell series as such these wallpapers. On the right is my regular wallpaper (which is also shared with my laptop, courtesy of my Microsoft account & OneDrive) and on the right is the wallpaper which I'm using on my second (4:3) monitor.

As said it's all because of GiTS. I was amazed with the original movie which resulted in me pursuing the original manga's which I got! I have the original in both Japanese (with special thanks to my gf <3) as well as the (English) translated version. And I got the sequel and some designer notes as well. Obviously I have the original movie on DVD and the sequel ("Innocence'). I followed the Stand Alone Complex spin off series as it aired (it got recorded in Japan and spread through "alternative" channels and made available through IRC). As soon as it came out I bought myself the special edition DVD release of the first season and I have the second season as a regular release. And of course I also own the movie "Solid State Society" which is based on S.A.C.

I'm still a fan of the original material but I steer clear from all the nonsense that got released after Spielberg bought and plain out destroyed the legacy that was GiTS. I've seen "Arise" and although I enjoyed the animation itself I plain out disliked the whole story. Never seen the live action movie and I have no plans on watching it either. Although I will say this: I think they got the perfect actress to play Kusanagi, she really looks the part. But that's about the only positive thing I got to say about the movie :)

    So yeah, that's my desktop.

Are you using any chat plugins? My guess is that your permissions need better fine tuning, so look into permissionsex or lucky perms and make sure that your users are allowed to use that plugin.

You can make a map using a compass and paper. You can make a compass from combining some iron ingots with one redstone dust and you can make paper out of sugarcane (which you can also grow, so make sure to plant some as well).

Still, a map will only do so much. For best results you should also add a named) banned and then right clicking on it with the map so that you add a clearly visible marker. I also recommend making a campfire and placing it on top of a haybale to create a longer smoke trail. That will also help to more easily recognize your base from a distance.

What game? What version and are you using mods? If so what mod loader do you use and what mods? Also: tried without mods?

How are you trying to download them? Not having Java isn't an issue perse but you will need to have the runtime installed before you can use their installers. You say you download pdf files, what's in them? I'm assuming that you're not downloading the files or link destinations but instead the html page as a whole.

The only thing you need to do is click on the right options:

    https://optifine.net/downloads

For OptiFine this means clicking the "download" link for the version you need, that will not result in a pdf file.

    Nice thread!

Boy, I still remember it like yesterday... I started playing in March 2014, and it was on a Friday (but I don't remember which). There are two reasons why I remember... first is because I have a few screenshots from the very first "building" I made on a server which I discovered the next week, but second because we had an awesome evening that day...

My gf had been playing with MC for a while and she figured I might also be interested in all that. So she showed me the whole thing. At first I wasn't really interested or better put: was wondering if this would be something I'd enjoy. What to do, how does it work, etc... So confusing (this was 1.7 btw). So she put me into creative mode, showed me that you could turn lamps on and off with redstone and that was the beginning of the end for me; I soon discovered (by accident!) that you could turn off torches and then i realized that I could actually build TTL circuitry (logical gates, AND, NAND, OR, etc.) which was an insta-hit ;)

We ended up playing survival together (my gf created a new world and used the share lan on her laptop) and well.. it was morning (got light again) when we figured that we might want to get some sleep :D

This was also when I learned the differences between creative and survival :P

Wait, there are also other games than Minecraft?! 😁

I got a Steam account and thus also a decent collection of games. My overall favorites are Arma 3 (gotta love the Eden editor which allows you build your own missions and stuff), GTA 5 (gtao actually, though it's starting to bore me a bit) and Kerbal Space Program.

As a runner up I'm also keen on XCOM2.

This is easily doable. First: although you can't run 2 launchers you can keep the launcher open so that you can start multiple instances of Minecraft. Start the launcher, go to the settings (lower left corner) and enable the option "Keep the Launcher open while games are runing". This is step one.

The mod problem can also be easily solved..

Inside your 'mods' folder you should also see some sub-folders, in specific 1.12 and 1.14. Guess what? Forge will use those to only load mods for a specific version. If you don't see these folders then just create them yourself. So be sure to put the 1.14 mods into 1.14 and the others vice versa.

The result is that you can easily fire up 2 versions of Forge which both use specific versions of your mods.

    Ey Empathy!

What's the exact error that you got?

(edit): what happens if you try: /minecraft:give wheat ?

So how did you fix it? Sharing the solution might help other readers as well.

For the record: issues like these are main reason why I always turn off automated updating in my settings, and I strongly suggest you do the same. Normally it shouldn't be much of an issue but you cannot rely on the developers to keep everything 'backwards compatible'.

Quickest way to solve this for now... Close your stuff then open the file explorer and then go to %appdata%. In there you'll find a folder called .minecraft, rename this into something else. Then try to start the game again...

This method will reset your game into the vanilla settings, which makes it a perfect solution to test where something is going wrong. Keep in mind that you're going to have to log on again. If things do work from here on you can then move stuff over from the previous game folder.

Of course there's use for it. Creating some extra goodwill and drawing in extra attention to the MineCon event. Coding takes time, designing & setting up new stuff likewise and well... it could be a lot more efficient to pick an update in advance, start developing the basic outline for it while you then give your audience the impression that they chose it in the poll.

The advantage is extra work which has already been done (without time constraints) and like I said: draw in more attention. Why do you think polls are often favored in forums? Because they often draw in more attention that a regular story. And extra attention is just the thing which Mojang could use right now.

The problem is not the server code perse, it's server owners who expect the same performance and rely on the same (now outdated) methods to reduce lag. And the result are lagging servers.

Or to put this more simple: the time where getting rid of all Items (entities which lie on the floor) would also reduce most of the lag are far behind us. But guess what? Most anti-lag mods still have this feature prominently displayed because.... Instead they could use dynamic viewing ranges, small changes to mod behavior, controlled light updates (try to paste a 10x10 lap of dirt in the sky and you'll know what I mean), stuff like that.

Note: I'm not saying it's all to blame on 'others', of course the code could use optimization too. But I do believe it's hardly as bad as you make it sound. I run 1.14 on an older server with up to 6 - 10 players and don't get any lag. And I even use stuff like CoreProtect and GriefPrevention.

Polls like that make me wonder if the whole thing wasn't rigged from the getgo.
