What harm is telling them a few little things going to do? There's a huge difference between knowing and doing, am I right? One could know how to make a server, but to manage it well and drive it toward success is another thing completely.

Harrypotter74Imagine one day you go to a server host, buy a 10GB server and over 4 months over 1500000 people joined...

In what world would 10GB even hold that many people? I know your example is an exaggeration, but there are people here saying they could have 400 slots with 8GB.

In your dreams. Even without plugins or mods, that's still in the realm of fantasy.
I might as well contribute my piece.

Would I be a good owner?
That's arguable. I'd say not. Tried and failed IMO.

    How would I get staff?
Have an application form on the website, but keep a majority of people I know.

    What host would I use?
I have a host in mind. I'd use the same one I always use, but I won't put it here, because it's advertisement and against PMC rules.

What server mod would I use?
CraftBukkit. Most widely supported if I'm not mistaken.

How many slots would I have?
I would upgrade to 16GB of RAM with no more than 100 slots.
Exclusivity is a good marketing point.

*EDIT: Then I would sell it. I have no moral fiber. It would be under better management from someone who could afford to buy it and be willing to pay for it.

Everyone is missing the point of my list. They take it as me attacking Windows users or saying that Windows computers don't compare, but it's not that at all. Seriously. People are so quick to blindly defend or pick a fight about something that doesn't even matter. Even if they know so little about it.

It doesn't help your case when you do that. It just makes you look silly.

Surely, every Mac user realizes what a horrible mistake they made buying their computer. Or according to many PC elitists and/or people that cringe when someone praises a Mac, Apple users are just foolish sheep.

Tell me more about how smarter you are than all Apple fans.

I'm saying that both systems are fundamentally the same. You can get the same features in either system. Yes. The new Macbooks do use a 4k display.

Retina quadruples the resolution of the screen by packing 4x more pixels per inch, and those screens have a horizontal length of more than 1,000 pixels otherwise. Just a fact. There's no need to tear at it or state that it's also possible with PC. That's obvious.

If it's possible with one system. It's possible with the other. I've learned this from personal experience. I'm a Mac gamer that plays Windows games on my Mac machine. I simply run Parallels, which is a program that allows me to run Windows at the same time as a virtual machine. Skyrim is still my current favorite.

Yes. Windows can run OS X. You just have to know your hardware lineup will be friendly with it. The fact that feel I have to state that Windows can do it too in fear that someone will try to pick apart my very neutral statements is ridiculous.

I'm tired of hearing all the insults that are thrown by the less rational PC elitists.

These kinds of topics always become the PC users pointing out that Macs are "overpriced" and have no feature that a PC can't have. Then the Mac users simply stating how satisfied they are, or defending their position.

If people like a product, and wish to recommend it to the OP, let them do that. Don't retort, defend, or tear down what others say. THAT GOES FOR BOTH SIDES.

The way you invest your money is the only difference. 3-month billing cycle vs. 6-month billing cycle. I just own and use both every day. What would I know?

*EDIT: My reason for having and using both (in case someone asks why I have both if their pretty much the same), is to keep a cheaper backup computer. Simple.

    Prototype_X9Conclusion:
There are people who like windows and people who like mac. There are people who like android phones and people who like iPhones. There are endless possibilities as to why we like 1 thing and why we hate it the next moment. You might be like me, liking both OS systems but you might also use only one or not any of them. This is a matter of personal choice. It is because there are too many ways to hate one ting that you can't hate it. For the above comments, Mac is commonly NOT used as a gaming computer. Windows is NOT a computer for overseas travel and convenience.

You make good points. Mainly because they don't consist of tearing and/or praising only one side, and it sounds like you have experience on both ends. We should be pals.

Wait... did Edward Snowden specifically call Apple out? Or was it other companies and/or just as a general statement that companies give information to the government?

I honestly have no quarrel with the government having my info. What are they going to do with it? Make me read it? No. I'm not doing anything shady, so they shouldn't find me too interesting or even get up in my grill.

    TraedpoD+ Durable as hell.

Depends on how you treat your device. I have an 11 years old PC at my home and it still works perfectly. On the other hand, my old laptop broke in like 3 years.

    TraedpoD+ 4k display.

You can get 4K display in Windows. You just get a 4K screen and a GPU that can handle gaming and/or other things in 4k and there you go.

    TraedpoD- $200+ OS.

You can get Windows 8.1 for $80. You can get it for around $20 in /r/softwareswap.

    TraedpoD- $110+ office software.

Usually on laptops Microsoft Office comes pre-installed. Sadly, that doesn't apply to PCs.

You're missing the point. That list points out that we CAN have all of those things on either system.

The difference is that it's either not included with a typical Windows computer or it's included in the price. Ergo, you'll spend your money on all those pieces whether you choose Mac or PC.

In layman's terms; the difference between a 3-month billing cycle, and a 6-month billing cycle. Same deal... different price.

The one thing that didn't belong in that list, is that Macs retain their overall resale value incredibly well. Most Mac users buy them used. I bought my old 13" Macbook Pro for $800, and a wholesome 4 years later, I sold it on eBay for $700. I practically got a refund.

One thing I won't agree with is that durability bit. Macbooks Pros are construction-grade. CNET did a video where they took the same 15" Macbook Pro and:

    - Placed a pallet of bricks on it.
    - Placed a 1.4 ton boulder on it.
    - Let it sit in a water fountain.
    - Mixed it in with gravel and poured it out from a height.

The only thing that needed repairs in the end was the screen, but it functioned otherwise.

I love it when I open my Macbook Pro in front of my Windows friends, and as that starting sound hums, they glare at me as if I just pissed in their Cheerios. Haha!

    They're really smart, though. Many of us actually have intelligent discussions about the benefits of both systems quite often. This is what we came up with;

The major difference between them is how you invest your money.

    MAC OS X:
    -- Pay $1k+ once.
    + FREE OS version updates.
    + FREE media software.
    - $60 full office software.
    + Durable as hell.
    + 4k display.
+ No required anti-virus. You can catch them, but I haven't in over 7 years of wild Internet surfing and downloads.
+/- Can run Windows simultaneously or separately.

    PC WINDOWS:
    - Pay $300+ for computer
    - Pay $$$ once or monthly for anti-virus.
    -- $200+ OS version updates.
    - $110+ office software.
+ Cheaper and/or easier to customize hardware.
    + More readily available.
    - OS is not streamlined to all available hardware.
+/- Can run OS X simultaneously or separately. However, you must be careful what hardware you use. This will not work nicely for all Windows users.

I think it's like comparing an orange to an orange. Or an apple to an... *giggles* apple. In the end, you could have the same deal.

The main difference is whether you want to pay throughout your term, or most of your cash/money up-front. This is what we have gathered from our use of both systems.

Show me where it says a game is made on a Windows or Mac device. I'm simply pointing out how flimsy your argument is when you have no cited proof.

    Effective and affordable aren't synonymous.

I find OS X extremely easy-to-use. So do all regular Mac users, I'd imagine. I suppose not everyone will feel such, just as I don't find Windows all that easy. It's a matter of preference in the end.

dog51848Heres a couple articles on how Microsoft obviously cares a lot less about it's customers.

    http://www.wnd.com/2013/06/nsa-has-tota ... t-windows/
    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/j ... -user-data
    http://bgr.com/2013/08/21/microsoft-win ... back-door/

Also I believe the reasoning behind Apple devices costs is because rather than getting a cheap piece of plastic you're getting something that looks nice, feels nice, and will last. I saw an article where a Macbook Pro fell off of a motorcycle at 60 MPH and still booted as if nothing happened. CNET did a video where they tried to break a Macbook Pro at a construction site and after all they tried it still worked. CNET also rated the iPad 3 number one on a list of devices that were near impossible to break. They froze it in solid ice, dropped from a ladder, put in liquid nitrogen, and it still turns on.

Not only does it last long Mac's are designed for things such as photo editing, 3D modeling, graphic design, video editing, etc and will usually work much better on a Mac rather than a Windows PC.

Ahaha thing is, I could easily break a Mac with 1 fell swing of a hammer, as you could with ANY electronic.

Also, putting it in Liquid Nitrogen would cause it to freeze instantaneously, never to be recovered again. If an iPad 3 was put in LN, I could break it with my bare hands. It would snap like a twig.

And also, last time I checked, most PC's last for QUITE a long time.
Another point, I do video editing, picture editing, and etc on this Windows PC. It works just the same as it would on Mac. It's the programs that do that, not the Mac itself.

    Your argument is invalid.

    #PCMasterRace

Here's the video demonstrating some less-than-likely scenarios in a construction site that test the Macbook Pro's durability: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyJmcVh0E94

Here's the video of the iPad being submerged in liquid nitrogen, and still working afterword: http://youtu.be/fXgjLmDssvQ?t=14m33s

Do you look anything up before making your posts?

It's the realm of accidental damage you should be aware of, unless you have an illness that causes you to obliterate every electronic device you come across. Im pretty sure Microsoft or Apple don't expect anyone to use their computers as a 2x4.

I also just don't enjoy seeing all these elitist PC meanies.

If someone is happy with a product, and wants to dish out 1-2k for it, then what on Earth is wrong with that? Bottom line - like a product? Use it. Don't like someone else's product? Shut up.

*EDIT: Due to the affordability and ready access to PC/Windows machines, this poll will never yield an accurate result. Most people here have probably never fully explored OS X.

    I am your father...

Your voice is rumbly and makes my skull tingle. I'm not in need of a voice actor at the moment, but might I add you on Skype should the need arise?

Your Internet could just be awful. I know my download speeds are weaker than any other. It takes me 13 hours to download and install a new OS on my computer.

Just keep in mind that you have to download the iOS before installing it. That may be the issue.

That doesn't make sense with the way the poll is phrased. You cannot discover how many are being truthful about their gender by asking a question to only one gender. Get it?

Agreed. I was just pointing out that servers aren't cornering their players or forcing their hand in any way. Facts are facts. It's been against the rules to sell Mojang's goodies, and they only made exceptions as of late. It irks me to see blame being thrown on anyone who isn't truly responsible for the behavior of another individual. -.-

sycoincin this case its both imo, the servers for 'forcing' kids to want to steal the credit cards to they can win quicker and be better and the parents for not knowing what their kids are doing..

if a server is balanced and fun there are no need for donations to give epic loot or advantages over others as all players can progress equally dependent on effort... think of it like a MMO leveling system, there are not many legal ways to get the best gear unless you work from it

This is just silly. Servers selling powerful kits (while it is pay-to-win) is not forcing anyone to steal. That's just throwing blame to keep attention off of the real thief. It's not like you have no choice, but to play on server A instead of server B. You can always leave.

When I was a wee child, the thought of stealing credit/debit info. from my parents had never once crossed my mind. If it did, it was still certainly far out of the question anyway.

Supposing that children charging their parents is actually an issue, that has nothing to do with the vendor or it's staff and owners. It has to do with that child's own values/morals, and the precautionary steps their parents take to ensure their child doesn't steal. Whether that's raising them to know better, or simply keeping it hidden and out of reach.

"Forcing" implies it's against freewill. There is a very distinct choice made in this scenario.

Bing existed long before Google under several different names during it's lifetime. It's whatever.

On the other hand, I cannot get over the fact that we have a nearly infinite wealth of mankind's current knowledge at our fingertips. Everything from recipes, to tutorials on almost any subject/task. Not to mention, libraries upon libraries of comics, novels, poetry, literature, and encyclopedic articles to expand our minds. Even millions of hours of entertainment in the form of video, music, and nearly every other non-tangible form of recreation.

Google was one of the first that made it any sort of tolerable to search for this stuff. For just about anything we could ever need to know.

Google is CLEARLY a horrible and destructive entity that has made humanity worse as a whole!

While I agree with you 100% on this fact, I must add that donations nearly came to a sudden halt on my server, and many other servers as reported by owners I know.

This may be the largest adaptation Minecraft servers have ever been expected to make. It's no easy feat, and we are attempting to reprogram the community's way of thinking when it comes to "donations".

I wish truly that more people had the generosity that I cherish and try to live by. When I like an organization, project, or goal enough, I give it a little financial shove.

Not for personal gain, but just because I want it to continue, or even grow. This isn't a commentary on the Minecraft community solely, but just humanity in a general sense.

Many people just don't seem to want to "donate" unless it benefits them. It's a shame.

In short, players must adapt to this change as well. Servers can only offer things in accordance to the EULA, but players have to make the change happen.
