Optifine can be used with forge but forge must be put in before Optifine if you want to use forge, but Optifine doesn't require forge.Maybe you installed optifine incorrectly?
You install optifine by clicking on one thing in the optifine folder, then hold Ctrl and press the a key, after that, drag the files into your minecraft.jar Maybe your computer can't handle optifine?
