    I started up my first world in survival mode, and I chose the easiest diffculty which was peaceful. Then I started running around, found out how to do stuff on youtube, and finally I built my house. But when it was nighttime I couldn't figure out why there weren't any nearby my house. I thought maybe they didn't spawn as often as in the other diffculty modes. Then, it hit me. NO MONSTERS SPAWN ON PEACEFUL YOU ****. I cranked it up to easy.
