I only have the prologue so far, It's no where near finished yet.
The messenger flew through the night skies, invisible to all intents, hidden by the shadow of the mountains. Shadow haunted this side of the range. The sun hadn’t shined here for all the memory of those who lived there. Not that there was much of anything that could remember in this vast pit of darkness, thought the messenger, and shuddered, knowing and imagining what could happen to him if he displeased the master. He was lucky enough to still have conscious thought, and an independent mind consisting of ideals, hopes and desires, even if his master would be displeased by it. But it was only because he was a spy, and the master, as paranoid as he might be about losing his control, was wise enough to recognise that certain jobs might need an element of individual thought. The master was wise enough to realise that a fully bound servant, no matter what was done, was bound to be noticed. But if the master was displeased, then… He had seen what had happened when the master was disappointed. His first friend had gone to the master to report a failure, despite his, and others, warnings. The next time he had delivered a message, the servant that guided him in was none other than his friend. This taught him to silence and conceal all thoughts that could lead to irritation through the master’s evil eyes. But this message had been too important to ignore. He could only hope that the master found his news worthy and if he didn’t than he was as good as dirt.
The castle came into view, the outlines appearing to be blurred and rippling like a mirage in a desert. The messenger knew this was because of the army guarding it, constantly circling and watching. The guard never ceased, never slipped or lost attention, he knew. He knew that this was because these were fully bonded servants. Their bodies and wills subjugated by the master, left with one order to which they would obey to the death. These particular servants, he knew, had been told to guard and defend the castle from those who seeked to cause harm. While being bound left the victim with no individualism, it could give strange powers, often used to the advantage of whatever job they were performing. He was guided down, the servants using their mysterious powers to sense that he had no harmful intents. He was sent through the huge gates, gates too large to be moved by a man, but they opened by themselves. His panic intensified, knowing this meant one thing. The master knew he had come, and was awaiting him. The messenger had lost control of his terror, thoughts and images of his possible fate were dashing through his mind, his precious mind that could be lost to him forever. He didn’t even notice where he was going, until an unseen pressure forced him to bow. He trembled, realising that he had come before the master. He waited, until he heard a voice, a voice that sounded like the rough caw of a crow. “What news do you bring?”
“M-master, I bring news of the three. They have been found. They have been found.”
The messenger’s fear was so great, he raised his head. That simple action was the last he would ever make. His eyes met with his masters and he let out a little gasp, his head filled with a never ending screaming sound that erased his mind and will.
Hope this gets me in!
