    Hi,

Firstly, is your server based in 1.19? Are certain gameplay functions exclusive to newer versions of the game necessary in order for your server to be playable? If so, I would consider using something like No Chat Reports on a Spigot server. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be many options if your server is Vanilla or runs on Bukkit. I'd keep a close eye on plugins for these platforms in the future though.

If your server isn't based in 1.19, then I'd also consider blocking 1.19 and future versions. Plenty of successful servers do it, and if your community is willing, go for it. Be sure to ask your community what they want to see from your server's admins in the future though. Good luck!

This server idea sounds great, but already exists within the Minecraft community. Many semi-vanilla survival servers use this system to keep players active and engaged. Some also use a jobs/roles plugin to create dedicated server positions. If you're interested in joining one, I'd suggest looking for servers listed as factions or Towny on Minecraft server lists.

PS: my server is actually built like this lol

Everyone slips up eventually. Unless you are an absolute saint who doesn't say anything that isn't positive, you'll slip up and break the rules. Even if you are a saint, your messages can be taken out of context you make you look bad. The punishment? Perma-banned.

If this goes south, a lot of people will also make this decision.

Snapshot 22W24A added this feature to Minecraft, but presently it's just a demo and Microsoft/Mojang will not take any action for reports sent in 22W24A. I believe this will change on June 28th, 2022, although I might be incorrect.

If you're interested in speaking against this, a few Minecraft-based organizations are running petitions/campaigns against it.

The reasoning behind their system isn't irrelevant. If they actually cared about keeping the community safe, they would support the current system Microsoft/Mojang had in place where servers can moderate their own. Instead, they've decide to take a system that they know is prone to false positives and ineffective moderation and implement it on Java.

The system is deigned to fail because a multi-billion dollar corporation really doesn't care about or understand the dynamics of online play in Minecraft and the best way to keep the game safe.

While many servers abide by the rules and only sell cosmetics, many others are P2W servers that sell in-game items, spawners, etc. These servers are reported but almost no action has been taken to stop them.

    Hi,

I think you misinterpreted what I said. This is a PR move, not a stunt. We've already seen instances of people being punished by Microsoft/Mojang due to this policy in Realms. My point was that Microsoft/Mojang doesn't actually care about moderating to protect players, they care about it to improve the image of the game.

They will attempt to operate this reporting system, and they won't do it right. They've set themselves up for failure, and depending on the scale of this endeavour, they could set many others up for failure as well. Perhaps if Microsoft/Mojang legitimately cared about the community this system could be used correctly, but that's not the case. Their motivations are misguided and their actions will be as well.

Very true and that's why I made this post. If we can start to show that P2W is not good for the community's health in the long-term, perhaps players will make better decisions in the short-term. Just because something might be unlikely doesn't mean you still shouldn't try it.

Consumer choice always has an impact. If we, as a community, make choices to not play on P2W servers, servers will be forced to adapt to the change and improve.

Notch created that rule and was one of the people who made sure it was enforced. This caused a lot of backlash and hate against Notch and it was part of the reason of why he sold Minecraft to Microsoft. Microsoft does not enforce that rule in any scenario. Their server report system is run through an Office Form and it's most likely never checked and just there for PR purposes. There have been countless instances of massreports for years and Microsoft brings no change or punishment.

Mojang should stick with announcing. Announcing features allows Mojang to get a vague idea of how the community views the new update. For example, the proposed addition to fireflies in 1.19 was removed because players had major problems with how they would work in Minecraft's ecosystem. If Mojang hadn't announced it, they would have added to the game and probably received backlash for its implementation. Announcing allows Mojang to survey the climate of their game, and as a result, they make a game better crafted for the players.

    Risk.
Mojang has created one of the most successful games of all time. It's so successful that quite a few privately-owned servers have larger player bases and influences than some mainstream games. If Mojang just pumps out content into Minecraft, players will become unhappy with the game and leave. Mojang has chosen sustainability and safety over creativity and chaos.

Seeds act like instructions - they tell the game how to render itself. The hard part is that you won't know what instructions you've created until you've rendered a good amount. You can be proactive about it though and use seed viewers online. These tools allow you to view simplified maps of the world that you'll generate with a given seed.

If you want a custom touch to your world, you can also use something like WorldPainter which allows you to design maps from the ground up. If you choose WorldPainter, please note that it can have a high learning curve, and I'd recommend watching tutorials and starting small first.

    Somewhat biased here -

But quite a large majority of Minecraft players plan on servers/networks instead of single-player. Nearly all popular servers require plugins/mods to operate correctly. When Mojang updates the game every few years they force servers to choose from two options: stay updated or lose quality. This can make it difficult for players to switch between servers; often servers run on different versions (1.12.2 vs 1.18.2)

If Mojang delayed updates, it would give developers and server owners time to get everything updated, and it would provide a more uniform experience to online players.

Additionally, many of Mojang's updates feel incomplete/unfinished. Planning when building a server can be difficult because there's never a clear schedule/plan from Mojang and Mojang can often release updates that change the game so wildly that server infrastructure has to be rebuilt from the ground up.

From Mojang's perspective, Minecraft would diminish in popularity if it went that long without an update. By updating so frequently, Mojang has created an expectation within communities that updates will continue to be released. This expectation puts more pressure on Mojang to release updates, in turn making an update-hungry monster that will eventually catch up with Mojang.

I suppose we will just see what happens.
