I'm pretty sure there is no option to select what inventory slot you want to make an item appear. The give command only gives the item. I may be wrong, though I'm going to investigate, thanks for the help.
Sure you are right with that, the only problem is that there is still an option to spam the give command and end up with nothing. It's like when you press a lever fast and repeatedly making a piston become extended when the lever is off.
