The thing is that Notch is intentionally making it RPG-themed. But by doing that, he's making it a very bad RPG in his part. It was better off when it was just a survival game, because while those times were still lively, Minecraft was considered the best game in survival. Now, by being an RPG, it's completely changing the reputation of the game, and it doesn't live up to it's name anymore. They might as well rename it "OMFGDRAGONSANDSHIT". Not that I'm not gonna play 1.9, nor do I care for the patches, but I think I'll save my 1.8 .jar file.
