Definitely not. There was time (1.10, 1.11...) where the game reached a stage which where the game wasn't as popular as it used to be and that was because they didn't add many entertaining things. It is also present in some games that die out quickly because the content stays the same. If you want to go back to how it was 4 or 5 years ago, you can easily just switch versions on the launcher. Without updates, the game would die out.
