I have this process for giving punishments that I've developed over many months.
1. Warning
2. (If they're a spammer) Mute
3. Kick
4. Temporary ban for 24 hours
5. Consult other staff members, we all agree on either longer temporary ban or permanent ban.

I was a Moderator on a server, and a Head Moderator on another.
Time dedication daily:
2-3 Hours Monday-Thursday, 5-6 Hours Friday-Sunday
Why should we accept you:
I love being a moderator. I love being able to do something good for other people. I have the experience, and I really think that no server deserves to be put down by griefers, spammers, etc. That's why I love doing this.
