First what software do you use for editing?
I use Premier Pro and After Effects.
And learn everything you can about that software, the more you know the better you can utilize the software, meaning you know what will work.
When I make my videos, before I start recording, I first pick how I want the overall look to come out as. Plan out your recording paths. And pick your song, you can record to reflect to your song. It helps with making your video run smoothly with your song.
And practice practice practice, just spend time making videos. And when you do try to mix it up every time, you might find some pretty awesome effects just be messing around.
Invest in some plugins and effects I suggest
Videocopilot.net, they also have some awesome tutorials.
Youtube.com is a great site for tutorials, but its mainly if your looking for a specific look, not overall training.
Sorry if its not the best tips, most of what I learn is self taught.
FYI I have spent a lot of time using a certain program just to better my self with it.
