The flaxen gene affects only the red colored hairs, more specifically, from the mane and tail of the horse, turning it from a light, almost white, cream to a darker sad to caramel tone depending on the horse.
Since this only affects the red hairs, this gene produces no effect on black or bay horses and their variants.
