Their beak is long and sharp for spearing its prey - small animals and fish.

Fun facts:
They live in grassy areas with rivers and lakes, where they prey on fish and small animals. They will also eat insects and scavenge when they have the opportunity, but that is not their main food source
They live in small flocks of their seasonal mate, and past children. Every spring time (as in mating seasons) they will gather in larger groups along water lines to court other birds.
They generally have clutches of 2-5 eggs, but usually only up to 3 will survive to adulthood.
They are mostly flightless, only flying up to dive down on prey, or to run from threats.

Short story:
They are the main predator of the most numerous fish of their planet. Without the Numbirds, the fish would overrun the rivers and choke out other life.
