There are several modifying genes that add white hairs on the horse coat, Roan is one of them.
Roaning shows on the horse by mixing white hairs on the major extension of the body, leving a "V" mark over the leg joints, the face and most of the mane and tail in the horse's coat color.
The foal usually is born a bit lighter and darkens as it ages, some times nearly loosing the roaning entirely.
