This is a simple mod that i made that basically just makes emeralds useful. The emeralds can actually be turned into tools that are somewhat better than diamond tools. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this has already been done. Anyways, the download link should be pretty obvious.

When ever i think of emerald or other materials weapons/tools/armour. I think obsidian should be highly durable, but not as effective, kinda like the reverse of gold. Emerald i see as being less durable and effective as diamond, closer to that of iron, but having greater enchant-ability, such as costing less xp and/or having stronger effects and/or being able to layer more effects in enchanting table or together that usually aren't allowed.

that's like a game where you can mine blocks instantly and they come out in perfect squares which you can then put in a house built out of massive blocks half of your size of which you are holding hundreds of in your pockets. have you read up on Minecraft, its not a realistic game, its a fun game.
