Intro

Vanilla Minecraft has a huge problem. The Nether is cold.

Well, never fear! The Real Nether is here!

Prepare for a burning desire to cool off!



Summary

This data pack/mod assumes that the Nether is super hot! That means that mobs and players catch fire and burn when they enter the Nether.

The overall aim is to make the Nether harder by providing a new twist to the way that Netherite works and adding challenges to traverse the Nether.

For versions before 26.2 also read "LEGACY (versions below 26.2)"


Function

What changed?

The vanilla Netherite is now Netherite Alloy because it is made of Netherite Scrap and Gold Ingots, and now takes damage in fire/lava. If you build a Netherite Forge you can get real Netherite, which doesn't burn!

Going into the Nether without wearing, carrying, or otherwise using one of these will cause you to combust:

  • Netherite Armor (not Netherite Alloy)
  • Ice, Packed Ice, or Blue Ice
  • Fire Resistance
  • Inside Powdered Snow

-- The Ice Machine

The Ice Machine is used to make Ice (from Ice Shards), and then use Ice for Packed/Blue ice.

-- The Netherite Forge!

(a new player-made structure)

The Netherite Forge is made from [​Cracked or not] Polished Blackstone Bricks (which is acquired in the Nether), and is used to smelt Ancient Debris and Netherite Scrap, producing Netherite Scrap and Netherite Nuggets respectively.

-- The Netherite Smithing Table

The Netherite Smithing Table is used to craft Netherite items, such as: Ingots, Swords, Pickaxes, Armor, etc. . .

Written Out:

0) Collect Ice Shards from Ice, Packed Ice, and/or Blue Ice

1) Use 6 Cobblestone, 1 Cobblestone Slab, 1 Smooth Stone Slab, and 1 Hopper (see recipes) to craft the Ice Machine

Cobblestone and Cobbled Deepslate are interchangeable

2) Use the Ice Machine to craft Ice from Ice Shards (see recipes)

3) Gather -lots- of Ice, Packed Ice, and/or Blue Ice. [​Inventory worth]

4) Use your supply of Ice to go to the Nether and acquire Blackstone & Ancient Debris

5) Use Blackstone to create the Netherite Forge (Diagram from back to front)

Use Lava to power your Forge (1 Lava smelts 100 items)

6) Use your forge to smelt Ancient Debris into Netherite Scrap

7) Put your Netherite Scrap back into the forge to get Netherite Nuggets

8) Use 4 Polished Blackstone Bricks, 3 Netherite Scrap, 1 Campfire, and 1 Smithing Table to craft Netherite Smithing Table (see recipes)

(Cracked variant also works -- Soul Campfire also works)

9) Use Netherite Smithing Table to craft non-alloy Netherite items (see recipes)

10) Equip your Netherite Armor to protect yourself in the Nether

NOTE

These also lessen burning: Powdered Snow, Fire Resistance, Fire Protection
