Does this work with other mods?
When you select the item spot you want ex Item 0 you type in what you want let's say I'm working on Animal Mod I would type in the box AnimalModItems.my_item and it would be fine.

I'd like to know if you can make recipes that use the ore dictionary instead of item instances.
You type in the full name of the item including the class it belongs to if you want to use iron ingot you would type Items.iron_ingot or if you're using your mod items you do ModItems.mod_item_name
