The JNR 301 series is a commuter train built by Kawasaki and Nippon Sharyo. Each car is 20 meters long and 2.832 meters wide. The maximum speed is 100km/h and has an electrical current of 1500 V DC. They were introduced on 1966 for Eidan(now Tokyo Metro) Tozai Line services and Chuo-Sobu local line services. The trains initially had an unpainted aluminum look, and then painted with white and yellow. Then, they were painted blue to distinguish themselves from the 205 series trains in services at the time, and were refurbished with coolers. For cost reasons, only 56 cars were built and 103-1200 series trains were built in place. The trains were retired in a sendoff ceremony and scrapped along with the 103-1200 series, and one unit was preserved at Omiya works until 2017.
