Update #1 : by zaubara 07/23/2012 2:13:28 pmJuly 23, 2012 @ 6:13 pm UTC

Fixed the schematic, it was missing some redstone on the top.

  Have something to say?

May I use this in the ALU of my first CPU ? I'll make sure to properly give credits. I'm trying to build something that is capable of computing the 'shift-add 3 algorithm', it changes real binary to binary coded decimal, i'm sure you probably know that. Looks good, already a fan of your work :-)

Sure, I would like to see it in other buildings :)

Thanks :-)

Really a nice device, I'm using it for conditional branching on my CPU.
I had to fix it on 1.2.5 though, missed some redstone wire on the top, but it works like it's supposed to now.

Neat :-)

so in simple worlds its a lock

its a logic circuit that implements the mathematical operations =, < and > (by combining them you can also make <= and >=).
The numbers that are compared are binary encoded (base-2, the number system computers work with, were you only have two states to represent a digit. The number system we normally use is base-10, the digits from 0-9).

You're right, you may use this circuit to make a simple (in meaning of not-so-safe) code lock, but its mainly used in electronic circuits that compute something, like a CPU.

Imagine that all the combinations of either on or off of some amount of redstone lines were assigned numbers.

Now image you have two sets of these lines.. each representing there own number.

..Well this device.. tells you which of the two sets of lines represent the largest number. OR, whether there the same.

Oh, This circuit is very small. How make this circuit to more small?

Good circuit.

Thanks, i've already tried to make it as small as possible :)
