A Quiet Windmill

A carefully crafted, peaceful scenery.

Hello, I'm Geegaz !

This small map is a personal project that you might see as an artistic installation. The goal was to integrate custom 3D models with classic minecraft building to create a truly unique setting. Using resourcepacks and shaders, the ambience was perfected and gave the result you see.

Note: 3D models are included in the map by default in solo.

How it was made

So, how was all that made ? Let's break it into 3 parts :
  1. Build
  2. Models
  3. Resourcepacks and shaders

  1. Build

I made sketches of the windmill before actually starting to build.
The windmill itself was entirely planned, but some little things as the path leading to the house or the trees around were added on the go. I tried to use a restricted block palette to keep consistency, but some details needed additional blocks.

  2. Models

After having the build in place, it was time to model the missing details.
An amazing thing in minecraft is how you can find workarounds and subtle build tricks to simulate precise objects. But it's often too big and not representative enough, so I've decided to integrate 3D models into a classic build. Taking inspiration from the game GRIS, I modeled the wheel and the big fan, before adding the clothesline and awning.
The clothesline required a small animation to add life to the scene, so here it was !

  3. Resourcepacks and shaders

To achive the feel of the scene, I used Mizuno's 16 craft and Clouds Pack resourcepacks, along with Sildur's Enhanced Default shader :
    - Mizuno's 16 craft
    - Sildur's shaders
You can see at the end of the media gallery how the build looks without these.

Don't hesitate to leave a diamond if you liked the project,
Thanks for checking it out, have a good day !
