is it only me, or is it normal that i just get the forest sage bit, explore the grotto to fight the supposed first boss, and that there is no extra gameplay? or was that an older version? because i used Sticky piston it only showed that part

What do you mean by you used sticky piston? Also after you talk to the sage you have to climb down the ladder inside the trunk of the tree to get into the next area.
