As part of a large project concerning a semi-obscure European city, it was decided to make some vehicles that would fit the locale. This was in April, and most of the cars which have been made since that time would be odd choices for the city I'm attempting to replicate, so the decision was made to release those which I deemed the best. All of the vehicles contained within the glass, glowstone and emerald cube should be immediately recognizable to those that know what they are based off of. That was the main criterion, and if it didn't fit the bill it was decided to withhold the vehicle until its release in the map, or for a later update. Unlike other vehicle packs, I have applied the most variation that is possible at this stage in time, using the vanilla blocks provided in version 1.8.8. There are also various trademarks which have been seldomly used in past vehicle packs:

  • Every vehicle that is fully enclosed in real life is fully enclosed. There are no vehicles with gaps present within them, as they have been filled with glass. An example of this is the classic Mini, which can be contrasted against previous replica attempts.
  • The inclusion of badges, headlights and tailights using frames and cleverly placed objects.
  • Many vehicles use Cobblestone Walls as axles.
  • Most of the larger vehicles such as trucks have engines within them, mainly represented by anvils but on the Komatsu Dump Truck a large engine has been custom built and stored at the front of the vehicle.
  • Sign-based numberplates, for the most part containing "EXAM PLE"
  • An interior of sorts, formed by Netherrack Stairs and a Custom 'Steering Wheel' Head

One of the obvious updates which will be made later on is the replacement of framed objects used as lights/badges by framed maps containing a pixelized texture of the cars' actual logo and lights, to make the vehicles look more realistic. However, at this moment in time, I do not know how to use a custom picture as a map and place it in game. In addition, it would take a considerable amount of time to perform this upgrade on 80+ vehicles, so it was decided to leave them as they are for the time being.

Notes:

75% of the vehicles were scratch-built using reference photos. The most successful examples of these, from a personal point of view would have to be the Reliant Robin, the Mercedes-Benz Econic Refuse Unit, the NBFL/New Routemaster and the two Dump Trucks. The remaining 25% or so were inspired by screenshots of examples already built within the game, but were extensively modified in order to fit the style of the other cars built for this project. None of the vehicles present within this pack have been directly copied from the work of others.

Some vehicles use Custom Heads for the wheels, lights, and steering wheel in particular. Due to a glitch in MCEdit, rotating these vehicles for use in maps will not rotate the heads, you will need to remove and replace them yourselves in order to have them face the right direction. To remedy this, I have framed the necessary heads in a corner of the cube, instructions are provided to obtain them. The same problem also affects fence gates.

The Mad Max V8 Interceptor, 1989 Batmobile and Lamborghini Countach utilise banners placed a block underneath their front panel. When copying them to a map, it is vital to make sure this is acknowledged, otherwise they will be missing their headlights.

Most of the sports cars have a gap in their floor to allow placement of a rail and a minecart, so that one could theoretically 'sit' inside them. Again, this needs to be acknowledged if used in a project to ensure maximum satisfaction.

You are free to use any of the smaller, less complex vehicles, however, if you plan to use either of the dump trucks, the garbage truck, the higher detailed TV/film-based vehicles or any of the buses please credit me. Everything else is fair game.

Version 1.01 Update : by AlexGPB97 10/10/2015 6:02:49 amOct 10th, 2015

A relatively minor modification to quite a few of the vehicles.

  • The Mini Cooper was missing a glass block in the middle. This has been added.

  • Many of the 4x4s, as well as a couple other vehicles, used Charcoal blocks for wheels instead of Black Wool. Now every vehicle should have Black Wool as their wheels. Please inform me if this isn't the case.

  • The Knight Bus now has Purple Carpet inside its interior.

  • A few vehicles such as the Meyers Manx were missing signs to indicate what vehicle they were.

  • Numberplates have been added to many of the vehicles which were missing them previously.

  • The Dodge Charger, Plymouth Superbird and General Lee now have their interior lighting fixed by breaking a block in front of the window. Previously the interior looked dark and glitchy.

Thanks so much, I'm very thrilled to know that from a fellow vehicle builder such as yourself :D
Do you have any personal recommendations of vehicles missing from this version that should be in the next?
