I really like this idea! I made a personal GuineaPig_ Skin for a AoT Server and have never been able to use it... i hope you get to finish it, as i think you really did good!

Just for you, I've added a teaser of a basic gate design I made on a creative server, I was going to do more but then I decided why not make an entire map. This gate is based on the version seen in trost.
