Just click the nearest button when the elevator is at the bottom and jump in.
Dont forget that it's must be nearest button, otherwise you may damage the lift.
You can repair it simply by place sand or gravel in right position (you should know how, just look at the picture)

Mechanism is very simple, just 4 pistons working in a right time. I sugest to download it and put at your map, check what you want. I don't place there more screenshots, sorry.

can you upload screenshots of the actual mechanics? for example the redstone and the pistons (if thats how it works)
