The Landing Craft Infantry ships were medium sized vessels intended to transport troops ashore in higher quantities than the smaller Landing Craft Assault ships (LCA). Each one could carry 150 personnel. 30 of these ships were used to land 4,600 soldiers ashore on the Canadian beach zone of Juno Beach.

The Landing Craft Assault were small wooden ships meant to transport 30 men quickly ashore under fire from enemy machine gun and small arms fire. These small craft were used throughout the war by British and Canadian forces, notably at the 1942 Dieppe Raid, Operation Torch, and of course Operation Overlord on D-Day. 90 of the 306 landing craft used on Juno Beach were lost
