Buran (Буран, lit. 'blizzard') was the first flight orbiter to be produced as part of the Soviet/Russian Buran programme. The Buran orbiters were similar in design to the U.S. Space Shuttle.

The construction of the Buran spacecraft began in 1980, and by 1984 the first full-scale orbiter was rolled out. Over 1,000 companies all over the Soviet Union were involved in construction and development. The Buran spacecraft was made to be launched on the Soviet Union's super-heavy lift vehicle, Energia. The Buran programme ended in 1993.

Currently, the Buran OK-1.01 (the version that underwent orbital flight) was destroyed in 2002 due to a roof collapse. OK-2.01 is currently stored at the MZK facility at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, while OK-2.02 has been accepted by Russia and is undergoing maintenance. The remaining Buran models are either demonstrators or have been dismantled.
