"Sea-dog" Davos Allard looked down at his shacles as the ship he was in groaned and creaked. It was 1487 Just a few weeks before he was raiding Spanish ships gloriously in the name of England. Unfortunately, in his latest raid, one of his men turned out to be a Spanish spy and turned on his men. The spy was quickly cut down but not before blowing their ship and calling other Spaniards to his aid. Now, he and the rest of his men were imprisoned, on their way to Spain to be lynched. He and his men had been discussing possible escape plans but all of them were a bust or quickly trodded upon my guards. Then, as Davos drifted to sleep, he had an idea. He knew not all of them would make it out, but it was all or nothing at that point. Suddenly, Davos forced himself to throw up. "GUARDS", he yelled. "I NEED FRESH AIR, OR ILL DIE AND YOU WONT HAVE THE SATISFACTION OF HANGING ME!" One of the guards quickly responded, "Shut up down there!" Davos tugged at a officers pant leg, begging for just a small breath. The guard eventually succumbed to Davos' pleas, to quiet him. As Davos was led by the guard to the top of the deck, he abruptly stopped. "What's wrong English scum?",pesked the guard. In a single fluid movement, Davod spun around and cut the guards neck with the piece of chipped wood he had acquired. No one had heard. He quickly grabbed the guards sword and keys. "What's taking so long!" Yelled a commanding officer. Davos quickly hid in the shadows as the Spanish commander walked past him. He snuck up behind the man and slit his throat. He then quickly freed all of his men and armed them with bits and bobs as they cautiously approached the deck.
   "On the count of three we charge men, alright?" Whispered Davos. His men quickly nodded nervously. "THREE!" Davos and his men screamed "FOR ENGLAND!" as they broke out of the cargo hold of the ship. Spanish men quickly cursed in suprise and struggled to draw their weapons. It was a bloody battle and eventually ended with the English behind a fort of boxes on one side of the ship, and the Spanish behind another fort of boxes on the other side of the ship. Davos could see that the Spaniards were loading cannons and he needed to act fast. Suddenly he saw a small boat hanging of the side of the ship. He figured he could blow up the remaining gunpowder to save his men and they could escape. He told his men the plan but then a small boy stood up. "Captain Davos! I have spent my whole life being afraid and never having the courage to stand up for what is right. Today, I want to make up that wrong, I want to be remembered!" Davos then saw the pleading and awe in his men's eyes. It gave them the courage to become brave again. One or two members even volunteered to stay with the boy. Davos then whispered, "My boy, you will be remembered indeed." "GOOOOOOOOOOOO" His men scrambled to the small boat and tried desperately to release it into the ocean. Meanwhile the rest of his men were being obliterated by the Spaniard's cannons and guns. Then Davos was shoved head first into the boat and landed on two of his men. Then, the ship exploded. Splinters and shrapnel flew everywhere as Davos shielded his head. The man in the boat next to him was impaled by a piece of wood and fell into the water.
   The next few days were a blur. Davos and one of his crew members passed in and out of consciousness due to only a small canister of water and no food. Then one day, Davos and his partner were sitting in the scorching sun when suddenly the crew-member spoke, "Davos, kill me. There isn't enough water for both of us and one of us has to survive." Davos refused but then the crew member put a gun to his own head. Davos screamed and lunged for the man but it was too late. The gunshot echoed as the man's dead body slumped into the ocean. Davos stared in horror, then everything went black. 
   Davos awoke to a screeching animal noise. Suddenly, he closed his fists and felt, SAND! Davos suddenly rose up but fell back down due to his weakness. He looked around and realized, he was on the shore of a tiny little rock. His hopes dropped. But then, he saw something. Resources were gathering around the island/rock. The currents of the ocean must have brought crashed ship's loot to the island. Suddenly Davos realized there was food, fresh water, materials, things he needed to surive. Davos quickly built up a stock and over the weeks, Davos recovered. Then one day he realized he had to get off the rock. He had already built up a home but was dying of loneliness. Days, weeks, months passed as no help came. Davos eventually realized he was going to die there so he started to write. He wrote and wrote and wrote and wrote. And as he lay dying, he named the rock, the Castaway's Refuge, hoping that it might harbor other lost travelers...
