With MC Schematics ... how do they actually work? If you download the MC Schematic, can you put it in .minecraft and play the map?

Exactly what Apollyphelion said! But I use Windows 8, so I download the map, extract it from the zip and it goes straight to a folder file. So I place that into my .minecraft > saves and restart my minecraft. Whichever works for you :)

You have to open the map using MCedit, place the schematic with MCedit, then reload your world.
