Chase Tower - Chicago, Illinois
This is a 1:1 scale replica of Chase Tower, which is located in the heart of the Chicago Loop.It is a 60-story office building which was built in 1969. It tops out at over 850 ft (259 m). It is the eleventh tallest building in Chicago, and the tallest within the Loop. It is the headquarters of Chase Bank's North America branches and is also the headquarters of Exelon. The plaza below, called Exelon Plaza take up the whole block bounded by Clark, Dearborn, Madison , and Monroe. There are current plans for updating Exelon Plaza which has remained almost unchained since 1969.
Buildings History
The Morrison Hotel, located on the block was removed in 1965, where in 1969 the tower was constructed under the name First National Plaza and was the headquarters for the First Chicago Corporation which deals in banking. In 1998 Bank One Corporation took the building over as its headquarters and was renamed Bank One Corporation. Chase took over the building when Chase and Bank One merged in 2005, which is where it gets its current name.
Architectural Description
Chase Tower is a beautiful addition to the Chicago skyline. The building is a modernist style that is faced in a dull white granite and large expansive windows.The buildings main feature is its large curving facade that, when standing at the base, gives the appearance that the building goes on forever. The Plaza infront creates an intimate sense of inclousure from the busltling city around it by sinking it into the ground.
