"Minigame" is the understatement of the year. This "minigame" should you call it that is expected to have 113 levels. 114 if you count the tutorial. So, that's fine and dandy but what in blazes is Chunk Jump?

Well, if you actually asked that question then good question! Let me break it down. Chunk Jump is basically what is sounds like: you jump chunks. Now, to ensure we're all on the same page let me answer a question some people might be asking: What is a chunk? - And I quote from the Minecraft Wiki:Chunks are segments of the Minecraft worlds. They are 16 blocks wide, 16 blocks long, and 256 blocks deepSo we're jumping across chunks. Which means we're jumping 16 blocks in one bound. Is that even possible? Of course it is. With a speed potion effect at level 100 it is. To jump 16 blocks in a single bound - even with speed 100 isn't easy. It takes a lot of timing. But that's not all there is to Chunk Jump. There's many more mechanics. Sneaking is another major mechanic and is key to some levels. Sometimes, you might have to sneak down a path or sneak around fences. all your other parkour mechanics are there too: Redstone, Iron Bars (Not too many thankfully), Fences and more.

Here's an update log covering changes in this post and the map:

Here's more info:

  • The Gameplay
    Spoiler - click to reveal
So how does it work? How does it play out? Well, ever heard of Super Monkey Ball? Basically, Super Monkey Ball (Ironically shortened to SMB) is a physics game. Tilt the stage to roll your ball to the goal. Chunk Jump is a similar concept. Race to the goal. The first to the goal is awarded a point. The object of the game is to amass the most amount of points. When you reach the goal, you'll advance to the next floor. Complete that and move to the next and so on. There are even warp goals that award you more points and warp you up past other floors!

  • The Difficulty Levels
    Spoiler - click to reveal
There are 3 difficulties and one hidden difficulty:Beginner: Beginner is pretty simple, covering most of the main mechanics in the game in only 10 floors. Beat all without dying once and you can play the 3 Extra stages which award you 2 points for each win as opposed to the normal 1 per level.Advanced: Advanced takes it a step further, implementing normal parkour mechanics. It has 30 floors and 5 Extra floors which are achieved by beating all the floors and not dying 3 times.Expert: This one is a test of stamina. 50 FLOORS! Some are okay in difficulty and some are very difficult. If you beat them all without dying 5 or 10 times (still deciding on reasonable death count) you can play the Expert Extra stages. There are 10 of them. Beat all those and you can play the legendary Master stages. once you play the Expert Extra stages you automatically unlock the Master difficulty, regardless on how many times you die along the way.Master: 5 insane levels. The exact same 5 you play after the Expert Extra. Beat 'em all and you're done. But don't expect them to be easy. Or fair. They WILL be possible however. Some will be purely based off skill and others based off of stamina.

  • The Design
    Spoiler - click to reveal
The Design mimics the design of Super Monkey Ball to a "T" and then some. There are two types of floors:Normal floors: Normal floors are a race against your friends to get to the goal first. First one there gets a pointBonus floors: Co-operate (Or not) to throw a Gold Nugget on each weighted pressure plate within a set time. Doing so awards each player with 3 custom splash potions - Potion of Crippling. This potion completely stops any player hit with it in their tracks. They won't be able to move, and the won't be able to see.The format of these floors mimics Super Monkey Ball.Floors 1-4 - NormalFloor 5 - BonusFloors 6-9 - NormalFloor 10 - BonusFloors 11-19 - NormalFloor 20 - Bonus...From then on, every tenth floor (So floor 30 and 40) are Bonus floors. The Final Floor or the last floor of any difficulty is a Normal floor (So Floor 10 for Beginner, Floor 30 for Advanced, and Floor 50 for Expert. Neither the Master floors nor the Extra floors have any Bonus floors. The actual floor design and background mimics Super Monkey Ball as well and some floors are spin-offs of Super Monkey Ball stages. You can take a look in the screenshots.

  • Current Progress and Challenges
    Spoiler - click to reveal
How far am I along?Advanced Floor 17. This includes all of Beginner, Beginner Extra and the Tutorial. This is as of the date this post was created. This value might have changed. What challenges do I face?
    • I am running out of level design ideas. I intended to mimic Super Monkey Ball's level layout but one person coming up with 113 levels ain't easy.
    • I can't devote all my time to it. I have many other life goals and responsibilities and as such, I can't always work on it. At the very least I try to create a stage a day but even that's becoming difficult with the lack of creativity.
    • I'm also concerned that I might be wasting my time. My previous adventure map, The Devil's Castle, one that I spent a ton of time developing was a complete flop not to mention that the 1.7 update COMPLETELY rendered it obsolete. It won't play properly anymore (I think) and the Redstone is outdated. I don't want Chunk Jump to have the same fate.
    • I can't stay dedicated to the project. Again, 113 levels is the problem here. that is an immense workload and, from time to time, I feel I'll NEVER get it done.
    • The design. The design pattern forces me to build it, block by block. It's tedious. But this repetition doesn't really bother me as much as it does slow me down. You can see the design in the Screenshots
    • Minecraft itself. The Command Block colors have gotten messed up in the recent update. This prevents me from making beautifully colored text and instead highlights "and" in orange and that's it. :/

In conclusion, This is a project I am desperately hoping to finish but the workload is overwhelming. I would HUGELY appreciate any and all input, feedback, suggestions to help get me motivated. Even just appreciating my work so far and hoping to see more would mean a lot. Level design ideas would be accepted AND you'll be credited for the design. I see this game being pretty fun as a competition between others. Thanks so much for the support in advance!I know, this post seems all over the place in terms of formatting (at least to me). Spelling and grammar nitpicks are 100% welcome just don't go overboard XD. Input on formatting to this post is appreciated too :)

P.S. Let's just be thankful I didn't break out all my chunk puns. That would blow chunks. And for that I would have to be PUNished (Yeah I'm stopping there)
