The CTA 2400 Series subway train was constructed from 1976-1978 by Boeing-Vertol and was the first railcars since the 4000 series to have sliding doors. The trains were refurbished between 1987-1995 and were all retired in 2014. 200 cars were built, with 24 still being in work service, 11 were preserved, while 164 were scrapped. The max speed is 89 km/h. (55 mph) Each car is 15 meters long, (48 ft.) 2.84 meters wide, (9 ft. 4 in.) and 3.66 meters tall. (12 ft.) Each car uses a 600V DC third rail system.
