Intro

Hello Everyone!
After being absent for almost a year now I have once again returned to hopefully post a couple more builds before I once again go on a One-Two Year Hiatus lol. Anyways, to keep me on track and active I had a couple ideas I might throw out in a blog post here shortly, so let me know what everyone thinks about that when it arrives. Anyways, onto the matter at hand, the Discovery One, the technical details for the ship are outlined below and I should also mention the ship is not EXACTLY 1:1 but it is as close as I could get it in Minecraft, while still maintaining a reasonable look, I've outlined my thoughts on the build process further below the details. I've also included a couple of easter eggs in the build so look out for those if you're viewing through the schematic ;). Finally, I'd like to thank SpintextTheLawyer for suggesting this build.

Discovery One (Details)

Length:
141.1m
Width: 16.7m
Height: 17m

Discovery was made for project Jupiter in 1994 and was designed by Walter Curnow. It is propelled by a nuclear powered magnetoplasmadynamic drive located at the very end of the ship. The long slender structure between the engines and the crew sphere is meant for storage and supplies. The Crew sphere itself contains a total of three exploration pods as well as suits for all onboard personnel. After an order was given for Discovery to investigate Saturn's Moon, lapetus, it was deemed too risky and that the ship would not have enough supplies to return Home as such, the creation of a rescue ship, Discovery Two, would commence.

Discovery One (Minecraft)

Length: 146m
Width: 20m
Height: 19m

The build process was fairly straightforward, the sphere itself is essentially just an MCedit sphere, with added details of course, I also added three subtle pod bay doors onto the bottom utilizing stone slabs, they might be a bit difficult to see but I did this intentionally as I didn't want it to overpower the build. The storage units (slender body) were also fairly straightforward once I got the shape, I just duplicated the rest. The most difficult part of the build was the the engine housing unit at the rear of the ship, it was difficult to combine the shape of the connector to the rest of the much more angular engine unit, it sort of had to become a more generalized shape. Lastly the engines to the back were actually Quite simple to design, I just followed the taper extension from the housing unit and then utilized the diamond structure for the rear.

Conclusion

If any of you have actually read this far (or just scrolled to this point) let me know if you would like a blog post talking specifically about future plans! (I'm considering expanding into more social media, with a focus on MUCH more community engagement)

Speaking of community engagement, I'm going to do something different, please feel free to SUGGEST MY NEXT BUILD in the comments, here's the catch though, the build has to be either scaled up or down from the original. Ex. 1:10 scale would be 10 times smaller and 10:1 would be ten times bigger. I look forward to seeing your suggestions and if no one has any, not to worry, I already have a couple more builds lined up!
