VERY BAD NEWS: Okay, I realize that around two, three years ago I had promised this map released, I know. However something VERY bad went wrong and my hard drive got corrupted, thus destroying everything on it, including this map. I was devastated as I have devoted so much time to this map, and it still currently stands as my biggest minecraft build I have ever done. I was really looking for success in this, but life kinda yanked a wet fish out of the barrel and slapped me upside the head saying "NO!". I'm REAAAALLY sorry about this to those who were really looking forward to this, I will make sure to compensate for this loss with more to come. Now that I am around a month and a half from graduating, I can finally focus a little more of my time towards minecraft, while also devoting it to work and RL as well. The perfect balance as some could say :P Once again, from the bottom of my heart I apologise for this, I never wanted this to happen, but... Shit happens y'know? :\

Update #10 : 08/19/2013 1:54:58 pmAug 19th, 2013

Progress is slow-er, now that I've got school coming up soon, I'll have to spend less time on the computer and more to my work and such. I have not given up on this project, it'll be completed in it's own good time.

could I create DLCs to be implemented into the game at least, such as independent levels that the player can use as extra content, like in Borderlands 2?

No, because I'm already making plans for making this a series.

Also, Minecraft 1.6 will be released next week. This update will include leads, carpets, hard clay, donkeys, mules, and horses! So basically, awesome new building material and a slightly wide variety of mounts you can add to the game, maybe a chase scene with some invisible walling and jumping, etc. That'd be pretty cool, huh? Maybe a mad sprint through the citadel with a few narrow corners, right? Be kinda cool. Or, sprinting through hell with ghasts swarming the player at every direction. Suggestions, aho!

I'll think of something. But from your previous comment, I can't promise you anything, I don't mean to sound stern, but this is my map and I will build it how I imagined it.

Of course! You have every right to do what you want with it. It's just that you've introduced this map as such any amazing sounding concept, and so I feel a need to make a contribution to your map and make sure that it's the best it can be when it comes out.

For the Ocean Abyss area, I recommend you pull a few things out of Bioshock and Bioshock 2, while making multiple references to the series. For instance, in Bioshock 2, the city of Rapture is basically destroyed but barely inhabitable. In Ocean Abyss you can have ruins of building so destroyed that nearly 2 or 3 aren't entirely flooded. In this, you can leave secret and hidden notes lying around the wasteland all piecing together how the city of Rapture got to this horrible state. What will be interesting about this is that you aren't restating Bioshock 1, you're creating an origin story of how the city of Rapture in Bioshock 2, already destroyed, ended up here. It could revolve around the main antagonist of the adventure making sure no one would ever be able to discover his terrible secrets, gain power, etc.

I've had other ideas. Ruined ancient buildings yes, but this is a more challenging region, you won't be IN a large flooded city like in Bioshock, you'll be in the open ocean. Only thing you can rely on for air is a little plant this adventure is going to call Air-Reed, I've found that you can place reeds underwater and, like iron bars or glass panes, can create a small little air pocket. Having to do this and search for dungeons makes up for the absence of monsters underwater. A challenge for a challenge imo.

Well, this is your map so I won't contradict your thoughts, because Air-Reeds do actually sound pretty cool, BUT when you make challenges, you need to think about the ratio between challenging and fun. An empty ocean full of sugar cane that you need to navigate through trying to find dungeons and not fighting any mobs feels more annoying than anything. There's no challenge, glory, or fun (sly cooper reference) in this kind of obstacle. Don't make a water temple, man! Give something that the player can really head-on tackle with a challenge and that thing could be the water variant of a simple obstacle. If the player's walking through the ocean for an hour, navigating sugar cane for the necessity of survival, and probably looking up a walkthrough on YouTube, then that's neither fun nor challenging. It'll be a deadzone that the player may never want to visit again. Your challenge to fun ratio will be a 2:0, and you'd never want this as a map maker or a game maker in general. That's my opinion, at least.

I get what you mean by the fun vs. challenge thing, but the Ocean Abyss is more than just an empty sea with sugar canes for life support. When I create maps I try to put in as much detail as possible, think of using jungle tree leaves for kelp forests, and netherrack for coral. As for the mobs I really can't do anything about them, if there was something that could deny them the ability to constantly float to the surface of the ocean, then I would use it, unless of course it was a mod.

I'm not really complaining about the mobs, kind of, but What I'm saying is that don't have the player just running around the bottom of the sea surviving on kelp. Um... OK, so just promise me one thing. It won't be a total wasteland, it'll be slightly populated with ruined buildings, the buildings will have flooding and damage, like a pipe smashed into the second floor of a tower from the outside, so the first floor/entrance is flooded, the second floor has a leak from the pipe and has one level of water, and the rest of the tower 'barely' has enough oxygen for the player to survive.

Just thought of something, regarding the first picture. In this twon, or on your way to the town in the adventure, you become involved with a dungeon, whether you're passing through, or some sort of tutorial, the exit will be in a small hidden building peaking out of the ground in a cliff relative to the position where the picture was taken. just before the player goes through the exit, he'll step on a pressure plate/tripwire/etc. and activate some redstone, which will blow up the exit and entrance permanently, and set the time to morning in order for the player to notice that spectacular view, and remember his/her goal in the map and why it is so important.

p.s. I still really want this project to flourish, so I've learned a lot on MCedit filters, mapmaking, etc., and I can make your Dungeons even more impressive! However, I've somehow become worse at making terrain look good lol. But seriously, I can help, or I could create a Demo for all your patient subscribers!

I'll be fine for the time being, I don't usually ask for help since I can't explain to them what I want the build to look like 100% exactly, thanks though. And as I said before it will be finished when it's finished, patience is a big virtue.

I'm creating what's supposed to be an elaborate arena, which as you fight the evil witch sitting on her perch/watching you deal with her minions, will destroy itself. You'll be fighting a ton of bad guys, and using a redstone clock, overtime the arena will collapse AS YOU FIGHT. #Epic. The only trouble I'm having is Command Block Dialog and Redstone automated block updates. But it's coming along quiet nicely!

Well, this project is sure to be a long one, and world creation isn't an easy task :P especially when it comes to making large adventure maps. I'm still fairly new to making adventure maps, and this is probably the biggest one I've ever made. It'll take a good amount of time and effort, but its sure to be published my friend. :)
