My scale model of the container ship Emma Maersk. At 650 blocks long, it is the largest structure I have built in minecraft so far and the new largest complete ship in Minecraft. Took only three days to construct thanks to single player commands and McEdit. Maersk Line is the largest shipping company world and biggest company in Denmark. The Emma Maersk and her seven identical sisters can carry up to 11,000 twenty foot shipping containers at a time, including carrying tens of thousands of tons of toys from China to the US every year around Christmas time.

I have included my excellent 602-block Queen Mary 2 ocean liner in this world save - it is floating on the port side of the Emma Maersk. The largest container ship and largest ocean liner in the world, side by side!

What scale is she in? I know its not 1:1, becuase if it was 1 block equals one meter (1:1), that would make her 397 meters (or blocks) long.

Hi jbstewart985, I build all of my ships in 1.745:1 scale, which I have discovered is the perfect ratio for making the interior rooms look as big as they do in real life rather than cramped/blocky, and to add the perfect level of detail. I developed this ratio after building my Queen Mary 2 model - I first built a passenger cabin, than copy/pasted all of the cabins in and added the bow/stern to make it proportional-looking. When this was done, the final model was 602 blocks long rather than the 345 blocks that a 1:1 model would be. Dividing 602/345, you get 1.7449, which I now use as the standard scale for all of my ships. That means my Emma Maersk model should be 693 blocks compared to the QM2, although I may have fudged it a bit to make it look right (closer to 650). Having stuff look right is more important to me than having correct measurements, cause in the end only the looks matter :)

Cheers, and thank you for your interest in my work!

Thank you for explaining all of this to me... I remember when I made a ship in 1:1 scale, and boy did I have a hard time with the cramped space, and disproportions... Anyways, great work, and I love your ships.... I think you have earned yourself another subscriber...( I already "Diamonded" all your ships and favorited the Satori, Emma Maersk, and QM 2).

If only I had more time I would have loved to invite you to my current MC project. I'm currently drawing the lines for M/S Stavangerfjord. I will recreate her in a 1:5 scale (1meter=5blocks). She is the first LNG Ferry in the world, making her something very special. On top of all this, I've got exclusive insights to her, since I'm actually working on her IRL :-) I've got access to the plan drawings, so I can replicate her in full detail (or as close as minecraft will allow me). In a few month time I should be able to have her finished and ready for release. But for now I'd like to award you a diamond for your impressive recreations of both Queen Mary 2 and Emma Maersk! Well done my friend!

Wow, 1:5 is an enormous scale! Good luck sir. My QM2 is only about 1:1.5 :)

Yeah, it is enormous. M/S Stavangerfjord is 170m long x 27,5m wide x 43m high, that translates into 850 blocks long x 138 blocks wide x 215 blocks high :-) I've got my work cut out for me lol. But after building M/S Bergensfjor in a much smaller scale I found it necessary to up-scale things quite a bit so I dont have to compromise the details as much as I had to with M/S Bergensfjord. I want it to be "perfect" this time :-) So I go big, I go very, VERY big :-) cya in a few month.

Thanks! The color of the bridge area is sort of off-white, so I decided for stylistic purposes that it would look better white than the more yellowish sandstone.

Wow, thanks Chris! If you ever get the time to make a vid of my QM2 that would be awesome, as I am way more proud of that model than the Emma Maersk. I spent 6 months on the former, three days on the latter :D. You have to use the QM2 custom textures I made too, as I made them out of actual carpet and wall panels from the real ship for maximum accuracy (I actually sailed on the ship and went around taking pictures of floors and stuff, looking like an idiot :P). If you don't use them, it will look weird as I used logs and stuff for floor material inside. Anyway, I'd make a narrated vid myself but nobody would watch cause I have no subs and a pretty crappy speaking voice.

True, it isn't the largest cruise ship but it is the largest ocean liner - like Titanic, Lusitania, or the original Queen Mary, the Queen Mary 2 is designed with thick, heavy steel throughout, very high speed (30 knots maximum compared to 20 knots for Oasis) and excellent deep sea stability for regularly crossing oceans. The Oasis of the Seas would not be safe or comfortable in stormy seas, as it is basically a floating box.

you really know ur stuff. BTW the oasis has special fins in the middle of the ship that keep it level in stormy seas

Good question. I start with the smallest basic "unit" I can find on the object that is repeated a lot, like a window or a container on the Emma Maersk. Then I lay out all the windows or containers and use them like a measuring stick to get the overall size like width and length correct. Finally I just use my good ole' eyeballs to finish the rest. Making ship hulls is very hard, especially matching up the shape at the top with the shape at the waterline. I haven't really gotten the hang of this yet - if you look at the curved bow and stern of the ship, you can see it has imperfections and a sort of "lumpiness" where the shadows don't flow well. I just take it as part of the learning process.

Edit: I also use tons of google images photos to constantly compare every little detail from large stuff (like getting the "Maersk Line" on the side of the ship to look exactly like the real font) to placement of doors and stairways and stuff.
