Thanks for the kind words! For the floating islands, I used GoBrush to get a good shape. For texturing, I used special brushes called #lighten and #darken. They are available on the BlockWorks server mc.buildersrefuge.net - the server on which we built this project. For the top of the floating islands, I used a gmask to select blocks only defined by a certain angle. For the islands at the very bottom, I simply used worldedit spheres and voxelsniper smoothing. It would be cool if you had a system that activates when you pull the lever, that instantly griefs the map with fire and lava. Someone starts the end of time by being too curious..

Make sure you save the original separately though, the map is too good to be wrecked accidentally.

I would make two copies of the lever statue (both on and off position) then use a command block with the clone command to switch between the two. This will give the illusion that the lever is being pulled.
I actually have a command setup like this on my map, so that I can move my chess pieces around.
