how do you design something like this? I've always wanted to make cool castles like this, but I don't know where to even start.

I get that, but I don't really know how to. I don't really know how to connect the rooms together if that makes sense. Many of the large fantasy castles I find have many large and small interconnected rooms, more so than actual castles would. Castles like this, are in such a unique shape with floating parts and a Castlevania like style where you can get lost in, I wonder, do you have any tips for structuring a build like that? or at least, specific castles and other references I can understand this information from? I know this is more of a 3d map art, but I would still like to know how if you have any tips, I'm not really at the point where I can work off of my imagination.

look into the "flamboyant gothic" style... it is the main source for this style.

It's the last of currents in cathedral building as far as i know, after roman and regular gothic.

It's like stone embroidery, very very detailed work with super thin arches.

this fantasy style is somewhat next level to flamboyant gothic :) like flames made of stone

i like his color palette a lot, this is from a diffrent background since gothic has no metal

there is a bit of steampunk in this too... maybe also some castles from the FF rpg series.. the 16 bits ones. Old rpgs are always good source of inspiration
