This Only one command mod allows you to place floating or 'tricked' trapdoors that you previously could not do in such a way. It requires 1.8.1 or above minecraft without any mods.

How to
use:

Install the machine by pasting the command into a command block, making sure there is enough space in the area, and activate the command block using a redstone power source e.g. a redstone block.

Right click the sign saying 'get items' in green and you will get a spawn egg. The spawn egg can be placed like a normal block and different rotations will apply depending on which direction you are looking. But really it is designed to feel like you are placing a normal block when in fact you are not and it is being simulated.

Right click the sign saying 'remove' in red to remove the machine completely. If you do this the spawn egg will no longer function.

This can be done using MCEdit by itself, there's a fill/replace tab that works just as well.

The whole point of this is to allow you to quickly place tricked or floating trapdoors without having to go on mcedit or use /setblock

for example:

you may have a big build which requires many trapdoors in places you would not normal be able to place them in. Instead of going on mcedit, or lining yourself up with the different blocks, finding the right data and typing the command in to place the trapdoor, you can just place the trapdoors like normal blocks.

the whole point of this in convenience

Then again, MCEdit is quite convenient. Along with other programs such as WorldEdit, too.l, especially for places where you have to put large amounts of trapdoors in one area. I understand that putting one or two would be good for this contraption, but for larger areas, W/E or MCEdit would be more convenient.

Yeah I understand why you mean, I sort of put this up as a proof of concept, or an experiment, it's not really groundbreaking but I just haven't seen it done before
