When I saw this video (2:17) I came up with my own solution for getting a signal from a furnace by making use of a piston bug. The only difference is that in the video I can't hear any pistons, so they did it in some other way.
I also used a T Flip-Flop, so the signal would get high when the furnace starts burning and tuns back low when the furnace burns out.

I have watched some videos on Youtube, and there this circuit is often called a BUD-switch (Block Update Detector)
