The Mikhailovna-class Pre-dreadnoughts were conceived as an incremental improvement of the Pobeda-class. Featuring a slight increase in armor, this series of ships reduced their armament of five inch casemates common with previous designs in favour of an additional four six inch wing turrets, enhancing their offensive capabilities.
Designed and constructed during a period of rapid naval innovation, the Mikhailovna-class represented the pinnacle of Confederation pre-dreadnought technology. Although many were planned, only a limited number ever left the slipway. The tide of naval innovation was shifting towards dreadnought designs, rendering the Mikhailovna-class somewhat obsolete before it had a chance to fully prove itself. However, the experience acquired from this class proved invaluable in the development and construction of future dreadnoughts.
