Okay, I completely scrapped the Haven Hearth map and started from scratch with a fresh copy of the base contest map.

I introduce my Gardens of Light. Any advice, ideas and/or feedback (even negative) are welcomed and appreciated.

As Steve stepped through the collasping rift, light blinded him.

"Been in the Nether too long," he mused as his eyes adjusted.

When his sight cleared, he was awestruck. He couldn't tell which was more breath taking, the tinkling sound of the leaves in the breeze or the simmering soft glow those leaves emitted. It was a grand garden, well loved and cared for by someone. Who lived here? Was he dead? Steve hoped to find out.

Now that I have learned a few things about building projects in Minecraft, I decided to revisit this project and update it a bit to see if I could make it look better. I left the video I made for the contest here for comparision, so I hope you enjoy the new autumn version!

Update #12 : by ToadieOdie 10/02/2014 1:56:22 pmOct 2nd, 2014

Now the contest is long since ended, I've updated the trees with more color, giving them an autumn look since it's my thing right now. ;p

Thank you, there are things I know now that I wished I had known then for the contest. I didn't even have shaders back then to make it look prettier, but it's all part of the learning process. :3

I reworked the roof tops of the gazebos. Let me know what you guys think.

Edit: fixed a typo.

Honestly, I think this is quite plain. I think you could add much more to this. It seems, from my perspective, very dull and boring. You could do so much better. It looks amazing, don't get me wrong, but I think you could've put a little bit more complexity into designing some of the creations in it. Otherwise, great job.

Thank you for telling me. It means a lot! ^_^

Which creations do you think are in the most need of my consideration in attempting to increase complexity? I'm still working on trying to figure out how to add detail to my constructions. Is it the shapes of the buildings, the color (or lack thereof), or something else entirely?

Once again thank you for posting your comment. It's always good to know what is and isn't working for the audience.

What I think is that maybe you should raise the roofs of the gazebos a little bit. If you did that, it would most likely be much more appealing to the judges. Another awesome thing you coudld add (just a little bit of fun) you could go inside Mr. Frogmouth (name the frog that as well) and travel to a whole new area. And also, maybe you could add a little bit more colour to it. I just think a tad more colour would make it looks amazing.

Would closer shots of the buildings and gardens be more helpful in seeing the color I do have already? And I'll take another look at my gazebos and see what I can do - I think I know which ones you're talking about.
